| I have been wanting to stay in touch better with more of my friends and
family so I thought I'd upgrade to Blogger (http://grammarrlz.blogspot.com), which doesn't limit who can
comment on the site. Of course, this means I'll have to do a better job
at posting more regularly for this change to be worth it!
So to
update those who are new to my blog and those who haven't seen a post
recently on my old one, here's what is happening in my part of the
country. The second semester is flying by with only 3 weeks left in
the 3rd quarter. Of course, I'm not complaining because that means
Spring break will be here that much sooner.
Although teaching is
as busy as ever, I have one less extra curricular to vie for my time.
Basketball season ended a couple weeks ago. Something that is both a
relief and a disappointment. I had the unusual opportunity to coach the
same girls for two years, which at the middle school level does not
happen often. So it was sad to see this season end, knowing I will no
longer be coaching these girls.
As
for an update in personal matters, I took a short vacation to Texas
last week to celebrate my birthday which I also share with my
grandmother. It was wonderful to see my extended family, and I was also
able to meet with a dear friend from college.
I do hope this blog will be a way to stay better connected to old friends as well as make some new ones. | | |
| One of these days I'll learn to not procrastinate...
So I'm off today to surprise my relatives, particularly my Mema (yes, I'm that southern) for our birthday on Saturday. My cousin has arranged to take her out to eat and has also invited my grandma (my dad's mom) and two of my aunts to join her. (They all go to the same church.) I will just happen to be with my cousin when we get to the restaurant. Surprises can be fun when you are the one doing the surprising.
Of course, getting back to my first statement, this vacation means getting work done ahead to have things ready for the sub while I'm away from school for two days. Did I do it last week or even over the long weekend? No, of course not. I've crammed everything on my to do list into practically one night. So I guess I'll be sleeping on my flight instead of reading .
Maybe Saturday will be the magical birthday number, that will bring sudden wisdom and understanding of the folly of procrastination. (Of course you know, I say this tongue in cheek.)
I'll be sure to post more about my weekend in TX. I'm very excited to see my family and hopefully a good friend from college who also lives near my relatives.

| Well, for not having a very busy week at school because of exam week, this week sure did go by quickly. We had Monday off for MLK day, which I spent grading grammar quizzes. It wasn't too bad though, because I was still able to sleep in. Then Wed.-Friday the students had half days while the teachers had to stay to work on grades and prepare for tomorrow's open house.
Because it was a light teaching week, I was able to spend some time with friends several nights this week. Food and movies are always great to share with friends.
Of course, basketball had its place in my schedule again this week. Last week's game was a disappointing loss by 6. My girls played well but just got too excited in the last part of the game to come back to win it.
We were able to win today but the other team was much younger than us and very inexperienced; however, we did not play a very good game. Maybe the girls were tired, who knows. But I guess we'll be going back to some basics in practice this week.
I will also be finishing my grades for the second quarter. I can't believe we've reached the halfway point of this school year already, not that I'm complaining.

| I meant to post this last night so that it would be up all day today but better late than never, right?
Happy Birthday to Micah!!!
I can't believe my younger brother is now 25! ( I know, I probably shouldn't admit that he is younger.) I wish him all the best. He is an amazingly gifted and talented guy. I know that God has great things for him and that He will enable Micah through His grace to accomplish much for him.

| For those who are not sports fans, this entry may not be very interesting to you. My apologies. However, I have to brag a bit on my team who did such a great job today in our first regular season game. We had not ever played this team before, so we didn't know quite what to expect. The first thing I noticed was that they had nearly twice as many players as we did. Thankfully, I've gotten a little tougher this year and have made my girls run more in practice. It paid off today because they didn't look too tired despite the fast past of the game. So I've probably drawn this out long enough and can finally tell you that we won 38-9. What made me happier than the high score was the very good execution of what we had been practicing. They finally listened! It was certainly encouraging to me as a coach and teacher. We will have a much more challenging opponent next week, if the team is anything like it was last year.
Hopefully, I'll be able to post some pictures from the next game. I'll have to see if I can hire my dad.
My game was so relaxed compared to the first home game for our JV girls. I can't remember a more exciting basketball game. We came away with a 1 point overtime victory. All I can say is that I was very happy to be just a fan at that game and not the coach. I have enough stress in my life, thank you.
